What it does

Twelve packing strategies

SawKit lays parts out across as many sheets as it takes and picks the best of twelve strategies for your list.

Respects the grain

Say which way the grain runs on the sheet and on the part. Parts that must follow it are turned to match.

Kerf and trim included

Blade width and edge trim are part of the calculation, not an afterthought.

Cut order you can follow

Every pass runs edge to edge, so the plan works on a table saw or a panel saw.

Questions and answers

What does a cut list optimizer do?

You type the parts you need: width, height, quantity. SawKit fits them onto full sheets with the least waste and numbers the cuts in the order to make them. It runs twelve packing strategies over your list and keeps the one that wastes least.

Does it work with plywood, MDF and melamine?

Yes, with any sheet stock. Standard sheets are built in: 4 by 8 ft, 5 by 5 baltic birch, 2440 by 1220, 2500 by 1250 and 2800 by 2070 mm. Add your own sizes with the price you actually pay and the shopping list totals itself.

Can I type sizes in fractional inches?

Yes. 15 3/16, 3/4", 4' 6" and 385mm all work. A unit written on a number wins over the project setting, so imported hardware drops into a metric project without any converting.

Does the plan account for the saw blade?

Yes. Kerf and edge trim are part of the calculation. The default is 1/8 inch, or 3 mm in a metric project. Every cut runs edge to edge across the piece on the machine, so the plan works on a table saw, a panel saw or a track saw.

What is free and what costs money?

Free covers up to 10 parts, 3 projects and one kind of stock. Full access is $24.99 once, not a subscription, and one purchase works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. There is no account and no server.
